Elevator Pitch
Problem
Bélem is key city in the Amazon basin, who is keen to become a digital hub for a sustainable Brazil. However, this requires greater education and skills for the citizenry and workforce.
Solution
- Rede Belem Aberta (Open Belem Network) will enable city-wide open transaction network that will support the skilling and education sector, health systems and local commerce to support sustainable livelihoods and innovation.
Big Wins
- Increase education and skills of the Belem workforce, particularly in the digital economy.
- Providing greater and easier access to education opportunities to young people, while expanding the education market for local, regional and even international providers.
- Reducing the market access cost for digital education entrepreneurs.
- Instantly verifiable credentials/certificates will increase trust in the education sector.
Implementation :
Milestones
- Launched formally by the Belém City Council under the Belém Innovation District in collaboration with market actors, industry association and academia on 22nd November 2023
- Initial focus on Skilling and Education, particularly providing access to courses/trainings/upskilling opportunities and jobs/internships.
- Ecosystem includes local universities private and public companies, tech start-ups, business associations, and experts.
- Leadership to create the open network by Jambu Tecnologia company, supported by the business association, the Federal University of Pará and the Belém City Council.
Challenges
- Education ecosystem is fragmented with providers offering products in a siloed manner, restricting discoverability and accessibility to the end consumers.
- Establish local leadership in digital education.
- Spread the culture and benefits of open networks in a platform-driven business environment.
Next Steps
- Onboard more providers.
- Dissemination of information on the benefits of open networks in education and skills.
- Dissemination of technical skills to entrepreneurs
- Expanding the dissemination of digital services available in the network.
