Unlocking Financial Innovation in Peru, Central Bank of Peru

3-8 September, 2025

The Innovation Hub launched a significant new international partnership with the Central Bank of Peru to advance financial innovation and digital trust. This engagement applies India’s open networks model — and in particular the Unified Payment Interface (UPI) architecture — to the Peruvian context.

The IHP team, including Pramod Varma — chief architect of India’s digital transformation — and Carlos Montes, travelled to Lima (September 3th to September 8th, 2025) to deliver a dedicated workshop and public conference focused on unlocking financial innovation. The team met with senior government officials and business leaders to promote the adoption of digital wallets and interoperable payment systems, sharing practical lessons from India’s UPI experience.

The events attracted significant national media coverage and will create pilots aimed at boosting financial inclusion through enhanced digital trust tools. This initiative highlights the Hub’s role in bridging India’s proven digital public infrastructure expertise with countries in the Global South, supporting practical, citizen-centric financial solutions.
